The New Horizons Foundation was established in 2000 and since then has been supporting experiential education models that help children and young people grow and develop into educated, engaged, responsible and self-confident adults. From IMPACT clubs, adventure education programs, and community service projects, the Foundation’s activities create relevant learning contexts for students as they become agents of positive change in their communities.
Școli cu scLipici (EN: Schools with Glitter) is a New Horizons Foundation programme that supports schools, teachers and students from vulnerable communities in the development of early literacy skills of students. Școli cu scLipici was created specifically for primary school children who do not read at their grade level, have not attended regular kindergarten, have not had contact with stories, and do not have adults at home who can help them practice reading and writing. Our efforts begin with access to books suitable for every beginner reader and continue with resources, activities and training for teachers, parents and community volunteers so that every child can develop this basic skill by the end of the fourth grade.
During the almost 60 years since its foundation, the "Take Ionescu" Secondary School No. 16 in Timișoara has carried out an intense activity in primary and secondary education by a team of highly professional teachers. The students’ work has been awarded with prizes at national and international olympiads and competitions, and many of the school’s graduates work in educational institutions in the country and abroad, in research, administration and medicine. The school has been involved in a large number of cultural exchanges and is currently a partner school in Erasmus+ projects. The school has been running the "Eco-school" project since 2003. The International Symposium "School and Society in Banat", organised by the school, reached its 21st edition in 2023.
The Giarmata Secondary School is structured on 3 levels of education, with 7 pre-school groups, 15 primary classes and 8 secondary classes. Located in a rural area that has not yet reached its economic potential, the institution constantly aims to reduce the dropout rate and increase the satisfaction of those involved in education.
In 2022 the school won a PNRR project worth 151,000 euros to reduce school drop-out and has dozens of partnerships with NGOs and other partners through which children are encouraged to constantly participate in activities for and through the community of Giarmata and Cerneteaz.
The institution responds to the psycho-pedagogical needs of the young generations in Giarmata by modernising the educational act and emphasising the importance of education even in out-of-school environments.
Cenei Secondary School operates in a multicultural environment and is strongly involved in the life of the local community. By promoting the principles and values of democracy, respecting the students’ learning and knowledge interests, considering the cultural particularities and traditions of the community, the school supports quality education in an inclusive environment aimed at increasing the participation in education of all students and preschoolers. The Cenei Secondary School offers educational services aimed at supporting the free, holistic and harmonious development of pupils, with the goal to shape them into autonomous personalities, with values necessary for individual fulfillment and development.
Taking into account the needs and learning possibilities of pupils and pre-schoolers, their interests, skills and the peculiarities of the local community, the school ensures the formation in pupils of the 8 key competences at a functional level and the acquisition of a system of values specific to a knowledge-based society, enabling graduates to continue their pre-university studies.
The school has won, in recent years, a PNRR and a POC MySMIS project, in particular for the field of digitalization, a fact which proves the interest in promoting modern, open and flexible education.
